Soccer finals pairings set

The championship pairings are set for today’s final day of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional taking place at Plantes Ferry Field in the Spokane Valley.

The top two teams in each age-group bracket will compete today for a berth in the national championships.

California-South sends the most teams to the final round with 12. Washington state has two teams, Crossfire Premier ‘91 McCormick of Redmond in U-12 girls and FC United ‘87 in U-16 boys.

The defending national champion Sereno ‘86 Golden Eagles of Arizona were eliminated by the Colorado Rush Nike in a U-18 girls semifinal, 2-1.

Golf

Arnell Garza of Kennewick shot a two-round total of 139 at Hangman Valley Golf Course to earn the local area’s one qualifying spot to the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship to be held at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Valley, Minn., on July 12-17. Finishing second out of 24 golfers was Pete Sisich of Spokane at 170 with Mike McCurdy of Spokane third at 141.
