Courtney Love has been sentenced to 18 months in drug rehab for trying to break into her ex-boyfriend’s home while high on cocaine. Love has until Oct. 29 to enroll in a drug counseling program. She will be permitted to travel but will be barred from taking non-prescription drugs, drinking alcohol or being in places that serve alcohol.

“I have to stop drinking. That’s funny,” Love said outside court Tuesday, firing up a cigarette. “I think I can do it.”

The 40-year-old widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain was arrested in October after she allegedly tried to break into the home of former manager and boyfriend Jim Barber. She pleaded guilty May 25 to a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance and agreed to enter a treatment program.

Love still faces felony charges for possessing illegal painkillers, assault and reckless endangerment for striking a fan with a microphone stand and another assault case for allegedly attacking a 32-year-old woman with a liquor bottle at Barber’s Los Angeles home.

To us, they’re toys; to him, they’re bait

Michael Jackson signed autographs for surprised shoppers as he bought toys and stuffed animals at a Houston mall.

Jackson was in Houston “on business, and just decided to drop by the mall,” a spokeswoman said. The 45-year-old pop star and accused child molester shook hands with those who approached Tuesday night and sampled a pretzel at one shop.

Seacrest gets a little more idle

“American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest‘s syndicated TV talk show has been canceled because of poor ratings.

“On-Air With Ryan Seacrest” (which airs weekdays at 4 p.m. on KAYU-28) will continue through Sept. 17.

The 29-year-old Seacrest will remain with “American Idol,” which returns for its fourth season in January, and also keep his day job as host of the Los Angeles radio show “On-Air With Ryan Seacrest” and with the weekly countdown show “American Top 40.”

Maybe they’ll make it a real restaurant

Financial backers of celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito can sell or close the Italian eatery in New York City developed for the NBC reality series “The Restaurant,” a judge ruled Tuesday.

“I don’t think you are obligated to run a restaurant that’s losing money,” the judge told an attorney for Jeffrey Chodorow and his China Grill Management group.

DiSpirito had claimed to be a 50 percent owner of the restaurant, Rocco’s. Chodorow said outside court he may renovate Rocco’s, rename it and reopen under a different theme and concept.

Except for her mouth, that is

Anna Nicole Smith is jumping to the defense of actress Kirstie Alley, who’s been the subject of tabloid taunts for her ballooning weight.

“They are just being so mean to her,” Smith, a former plus-size model, told “Access Hollywood.”

As for her own 69-pound weight loss, Smith said, “I’m so tired of hearing, ‘Oh, she’s had bypass surgery … she’s had liposuction.’ None of it is true.”

The former Playboy playmate says she owes it all to a healthier diet and the weight-loss supplement Trimspa, but no exercise: “No, I hate it.”
