KENNEWICK, Wash. — Dave Villwock drove Miss Budweiser to an easy victory Sunday in the Budweiser Columbia Cup unlimited hydroplane race.

Villwock took the lead in the first turn of the winner-take-all final heat, and was never seriously challenged.

Mitch Evans driving Vacationville.com was penalized one lap for cutting off J.W. Myers in LLumar Window Film.

The LLumar boat hooked violently and came to an abrupt stop. Myers was not injured but was unable to continue the race.

The penalty dropped Evans to fifth place.

Steve David finished second aboard Oh Boy! Oberto and unlimited rookie driver J. Michael Kelly finished third with Miss APBA.

Another rookie driver, Steve Hook, finished a distant fourth with Conover Insurance.

Villwock had a perfect weekend, winning all three of his preliminary heats before winning the final.

Temperatures over 100 degrees taxed the reserve of boat crew members, drivers and the viewing public.
