Yankees 1, Blue Jays 0: Ruben Sierra homered with two outs in the ninth inning to lift New York over visiting Toronto for a two-game sweep. Toronto’s Ted Lilly pitched 6 2/3 innings against his former team, and New York was outhit 5-3 before the ninth.

Orioles 8-0, Red Sox 3-4: Tim Wakefield pitched seven shutout innings five days after a line drive hit his pitching shoulder, and Boston beat visiting Baltimore for a split of the day-night doubleheader. The Orioles won the opener behind Melvin Mora’s two homers and four runs batted in.

Angels 11, Rangers 1: Bartolo Colon allowed three singles in seven innings and Anaheim defeated West-leading Texas at Arlington, Texas. Robb Quinlan had four hits for the Angels.

White Sox 3, Indians 0: Former Seattle Mariners pitcher Freddy Garcia (8-8) pitched seven shutout innings and visiting Chicago blanked Cleveland for the second consecutive night. Garcia improved to 4-1 since joining the White Sox. Garcia allowed five hits in seven-plus innings, leaving after he walked Omar Vizquel to open the eighth.

Twins 7, Devil Rays 5: Michael Cuddyer hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth and Nick Punto had a grand slam, leading Minnesota past Tampa Bay at Minneapolis. Tampa Bay’s Rocco Baldelli tied it at 5 with his first career grand slam.

Royals 13, Tigers 7: Mike Sweeney hit a grand slam and a three-run shot to lead Kansas City over host Detroit. Ken Harvey also connected for the Royals, who snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the 13th time in 44 road games this season.
