White Sox 12, Rangers 6: A day after he rejoined the White Sox in a trade, Carl Everett homered to help Chicago earn a win in Arlington, Texas. Carlos Lee homered and drove in three runs for the White Sox.
Athletics 5, Blue Jays 3: Josh Towers pitched into the eighth inning, Vernon Wells homered in a four-run fourth and Toronto snapped a season-high six-game losing streak with a win at Oakland. Towers gave up seven hits, struck out five and walked none to win his second straight start.
Devil Rays 9, Yankees 7: Aubrey Huff and Robert Fick drove in two runs each to lead Tampa Bay past visiting New York. Huff’s two-run double was the big blow in a five-run first for the Devil Rays, who beat the Yankees in the series opener after losing four in a row to New York before the All-Star break.
Twins 3, Tigers 1: Pinch-hitter Jose Offerman’s two-run single in the seventh inning led Minnesota to a win in Detroit. Terry Mulholland (2-3) gave up one run on four hits in 6 2/3 innings to join the Mets’ Al Leiter and the Yankees’ Kevin Brown as the only pitchers to beat all 30 teams.
Orioles 7, Royals 4: Sidney Ponson gave up two runs in six innings to end his nine-game losing streak as Baltimore won at Kansas City. Javy Lopez had three hits and two RBIs for the Orioles.
Indians 8, Angels 5: Travis Hafner hit a three-run homer in the top of the 10th to lead Cleveland to a win at Anaheim. The Angels had scored two in the bottom of the ninth to tie it before Hafner’s heroics.
