New York dumps Charlotte

Elena Baranova had 19 points to lead the New York Liberty to 75-58 win over the visiting Charlotte Sting on Sunday.

Crystal Robinson scored 14 points, and Becky Hammon added 12 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Liberty, who shot 50 percent from the field.

Baranova contributed to the Liberty’s hot hand, going 7 for 13 from the field. Tammy Sutton-Brown led the Sting with 14 points.

Shock 77, Silver Stars 71: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Ruth Riley scored 21 points to lead Detroit to a win over slumping San Antonio.

Deanna Nolan scored 19 and Swin Cash added 18 points and 12 rebounds, ending the Shock’s three-game losing streak.

Shannon Johnson had a season-high 25 for San Antonio, which has lost eight of its last 10 games.

Cheryl Ford finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds for the defending champion Shock.

Monarchs 81, Mystics 71: At Sacramento, Calif., Tangela Smith scored 17 points and had eight rebounds.

DeMya Walker added 12 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Sacramento.

Washington rookie Alana Beard scored 27 points and Chamique Holdsclaw had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Lynx 63, Mercury 60: At Phoenix, Katie Smith scored 33 points to help send Phoenix to its fifth straight loss.

Penny Taylor scored 20 points, and had 10 rebounds and three assists for the Mercury, who have lost seven of nine.
