Reception for new worship pastor planned Sunday

Worship pastor Ray Weaver spent his first day on the job at Valley Assembly of God Church on Thursday. Having never stayed at a church for less than 10 years, the Okanogan-area native is looking forward to setting down roots and meeting his new congregation.

“It takes you a couple years just to get to know each other,” Weaver said.

Before arriving in Spokane Valley this week, Weaver and his wife, Arlene, worked as worship and arts pastors in Olympia for 17 years and as ministers of music at the Redmond (Wash.) Assembly of God Church for 10 years.

“We just found ourselves at home at each of those fellowships,” he said.

As the worship pastor, Weaver will be responsible for organizing three Sunday morning services and one Saturday evening service each week. Weaver also plans to earn a master’s degree in music from Eastern Washington University.

Weaver and his wife have two daughters, Kelsey, 13, and Lindsey, 7. The family will be welcomed during a reception after the 6 p.m. service Sunday at the churchat 15618 E. Broadway Ave.
