Fresh from an appearance at the Hollywood Bowl, the Singing Nuns of Mount St. Michael are celebrating their 25th anniversary with their annual Courtyard Concert on Saturday at the convent north of Spokane.

Since their first public concert at Seattle’s Olympic Hotel in August 1979, the nuns have toured across the country and appeared on national television.

Last Saturday, they were part of the pre-show entertainment at an audience singalong showing of “The Sound of Music” on a giant screen at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

They will be featured in a Discovery Channel documentary in the fall, filmed at a banquet the nuns hosted in April for benefactors who have helped them along the way.

Saturday’s concert also will include a special tribute to those benefactors. The nuns will perform several of the songs from their 1979 repertoire, accompanied on fiddle by Damien Cudmore, son of their original manager.

Gates open Saturday at 4 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7. The pre-show celebration includes food booths, live music, a silent auction and tours of the historic building. A car will be up for live auction.

Cost is $5 per person, $15 per car or $25 per bus. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets.
