Cheddar bunnies light on cheese flavor

Lorie Hutson Food editor

Moms and dads who are watching out for what goes into their little one’s mouths might like to try the latest creation from Annie’s Homegrown.

The makers of natural pasta and cheese dishes have introduced a new baked snack cracker. Made with organic wheat flour, nonhydrogenated oils and real cheddar cheese, these little crackers are shaped like Annie’s signature bunny. Cheddar Bunnies were dubbed the “Best New Product” at the Natural Products Expo in Washington, D.C., earlier this year. They’ll remind you of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish.

The Spokesman Review’s reader food panel liked them, giving them a three-star rating for taste overall. But some panel members said they would never live up to the Goldfish standard.

“Ah, what’s up, doc? Cheese crackers shaped like little rabbits can’t hold a candle to the old standard of the Goldfish,” said Skip Hubbard.

Some panel members said they’d like Annie’s to crank up the cheese a notch.

“Pleasant enough, if a bit light on cheese flavor,” said Donald Clegg.

Most panel members like them well enough.

“Great for on-the-go snacking,” said Peggy Kazanis. “My kids would love them.”
