Hawks, Pacers near deal involving Harrington, Jackson

‘Neal is headed to the Miami Heat. Is Michael Jordan next? Jordan, according to a Chicago Tribune source with knowledge of the situation, has been in discussions with Heat ownership about joining the organization as an owner. Although there was no other confirmation, it makes sense for both Jordan and NBA Commissioner David Stern. Stern has been trying to get Jordan back into the NBA in an ownership position ever since Jordan’s attempt to buy the Milwaukee Bucks failed last year. “ The Detroit Pistons have offered New York Knicks forward Antonio McDyess a four-year, $23 million contract, a source told The Associated Press on Sunday. McDyess has averaged 16.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks during his eight-year career, which has been plagued by injuries recently. He played 42 games last season — 24 in Phoenix and 18 with New York — and averaged 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Lecavalier replaces Yzerman

Vincent Lecavalier will replace the injured Steve Yzerman on Canada’s team for the World Cup of Hockey, joining Tampa Bay teammates Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis.

Team Canada named Lecavalier to the team after Yzerman told executive director Wayne Gretzky he wouldn’t be ready the tournament, which begins Aug. 30.

The 39-year-old Detroit captain injured his left eye during a Game 5 loss to Vancouver in the Western Conference semifinals and hasn’t yet decided whether he will return for another NHL season.

Lecavalier, the first overall pick in the 1998 NHL entry draft, got the call over center Keith Primeau of the Philadelphia Flyers, who is still recovering from a concussion he suffered in the playoffs.
