Whyte, Henry earn berths

The Spokesman-Review

Two former Inland Northwest collegiate stars earned berths on the Canadian Olympic track and field team on Saturday.

Angela Whyte, the University of Idaho’s all-time leading point-scorer in conference meets, will run in Athens in the 100-meter hurdles after finishing second to world champion Perdita Felicien in Saturday’s finals in Victoria. Felicien’s time of 12.45 seconds would have equaled her national record had it not been aided by a wind slightly over the allowable 2.0 meters per second. Whyte, of Edmonton, was second in 12.91, while Priscella Lopes gave Canada three entries in the hurdles for the first time by clocking 13.05.

Washington State record holder Anson Henry earned a spot on the men’s 4x100-meter relay team by finishing third in the 100 meters in 10.25 seconds, trailing upset winner Pierre Browne (10.13) and Nicolas Macrozonaris (10.20).
