Police investigate wreck

From staff reports

COEUR d’ALENE – Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a wreck between a dump truck and a pickup truck that sent two people to the hospital and left wood scraps and nails scattered across an intersection in Dalton Gardens, just north of the Coeur d’Alene city limits Friday morning.

A preliminary investigation shows the dump truck, registered to M.B. Builders of Dalton Gardens, was headed east on Hayden Avenue when it failed to stop at a stop sign at Chase Street, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The dump truck smacked the back end of a northbound pickup truck that was already in the intersection. The impact whipped the smaller vehicle around, sent it spinning into a power pole, breaking the pole, and tumbled its driver into the back seat. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, the sheriff’s release says.

The dump truck, sheriff’s officials said, lost its front axle and rolled over onto its driver’s side, spilling a load of scrap wood and nails onto the street.

Both drivers were taken to Kootenai Medical Center with injuries that appeared minor at the scene, the sheriff’s release says. Their names were withheld pending notification of families.
