Millwood officials to sell fire building, equipment

From staff reports

Millwood officials agreed to sell the building and equipment used to operate the town’s now-defunct Millwood Fire Department.

The decision to sell the town’s new fire station, trucks and firefighting gear to the Spokane Valley Fire Department for approximately $1 million was made after a public hearing at Millwood’s town hall Tuesday.

Valley Fire commissioners will discuss the matter at a meeting today.

Millwood and Valley Fire are trying to work out numerous details that would lead to the town contracting with Valley Fire for protection.

The contract could be ready as soon as next week, according to town and Valley Fire officials.

After a contract is signed, Valley Fire would begin to vacate its nearby station on Trent Avenue and would move personnel and equipment into Millwood’s station.

Millwood officials asked Valley Fire for help last month when nearly all of the small town’s volunteer firefighters quit.

Millwood officials have also agreed to ask voters whether they want to permanently annex to Valley Fire.

The vote could take place as soon as next year.
