Chase sprinted across the yard toward a shelter worker, Frisbee in mouth. But wait. An unmarked bush. Chase spent several minutes marking everything in sight one day this week at the Spokane County Regional Animal Care and Protection Services shelter yard. Yet he seemed playful as well. The dog was found wandering loose in the west area of Spokane County on Dec. 7. His owners were contacted, but no one came to pick up the dog. Chase has a lot of energy and seems like he would make a good running or hunting companion with a little training.

Anyone interested in adopting Chase or other animals can visit the SCRAPS shelter at 2521 N. Flora Road, call the shelter at 477-2532 or visit the Web site at www.spokanecounty.org/animal. Dogs cost $75.01 to adopt, which includes a license, neutering, vaccinations, a microchip implant and a trip to the veterinarian. The shelter will be open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and closed Christmas Day.
