Youth Cabin Retreat scheduled

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St., is inviting young parishioners to a Youth Cabin Retreat Aug. 28 and 29.

Interested persons are asked to make reservations by contacting Lynn and Russ Aley at 891-6925.

Participants will depart from the church at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28 and will return on Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. Individuals are asked to bring snacks and beverages to share, swimsuit, towel, clothing, sleeping bag, pillow and toiletries.

Centenary United Methodist Church, 1012 S. Freya St., is holding a preschool open house on Aug. 28.

The school teaches a basic pre-kindergarten curriculum as well as Spanish. Openings are available to 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children. The 4- and 5-year-old class meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until noon and the 3-year-old class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. until noon.

The open house is from 10 a.m. until noon. Refreshments will be served and the playground and classrooms will be open.

Buddhist lecture

Dr. Rinban Doei Fujii of the Seattle Betsuin Temple will speak on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., on the subject of “Why Jodo Shinshu Buddhism?”

Temple members and the general public are invited to attend this lecture that explains both the temple and Jodo Shinshu Buddhism.

The cost of this event is $5 and will be collected at the door.
