For many months, readers have been asking, “What’s up with Del Taco?”

Yes, between the “coming soon” sign and a lengthy construction process, Del Taco at Highway 95 and Prairie Avenue hasn’t been a mystery item except for the “when” portion.

Hey. It opens today!

Featuring what it bills as fresh, quality and good-value Mexican-American food, the North Idaho-owned store is open 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily at the counter and 24 hours at the drive-through. The 50 employees serve customers at tables and booths inside and on the outdoor patio. The menu includes traditional Mexican foods, crinkle-cut fries, cheeseburgers, shakes and breakfast burritos.

The second largest Mexican-American food chain, Del Taco has more than 400 stores in 14 states. It was started in 1964, and its headquarters is in Lake Forest, Calif. Local owners are Steve Ridenour and Tom Page of Liberty Foods. Page’s sister Shannon Page manages the store. She moved her family here from Amity, Ore.

Links for You moves

Italian charm bracelets and unusual gifts are the specialties of Links for You, which has moved from the Post Falls outlet mall to the plaza at 740 Cecil Road (across from Wal-Mart).

The inventory includes ostrich feather dusters, a natural massage bar, a versatile “magic” scarf, unusual cookie jars and Belle Rose purses, according to owner Jennifer Graham. Originally from Livermore, Calif., she came from North Carolina to join family in North Idaho in 2000.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone 777-0774.

Downtown gas pumps open

After several months of a shortage of gas stations in downtown Coeur d’Alene, Shell petroleum products are sold at Lakeside Food Market that opened at 508 Northwest Blvd.

Construction soon will begin on an addition to the building that will allow a greater inventory of convenience store items. The family-operated business is owned by Gurnek Singh, a native of India who came to North Idaho from the San Francisco area. Employee Bobby Kumar came to Spokane from India.

Hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Fridays and Saturdays.

Select Interiors on Seltice

Custom-manufactured accessories for closets are the specialty of Select Interiors. Its 3,800-square-foot retail store and manufacturing plant is under construction at 3046 E. Seltice Way (between Clark Oil and Luster Glaze), Post Falls.

Opening by early November, the store will offer wire shelving, organizers, door hardware, bathroom accessories and Melanine brand high-end closet systems in 45 colors wholesale to builders and retail to the public. The facility will be divided into 1,800 square feet for the showroom and 2,000 for the manufacturing area.

Owner Greg Sorrelle of Sorrelle Construction said he’ll have three employees in the store and four to 15 in the manufacturing and construction areas. He also provides specialty construction.

Originally from Lander, Wyo., he came from Port St. Lucie, Fla., to North Idaho in 1991 after vacationing here. The manufacturing portion of the business is now in the Coeur d’Alene Industrial Park, Coeur d’Alene.

A couple of tidbits

“ Watch for banking scams coming to your e-mail address. I got a notice from a name brand bank that said it was “updating its software” and needed my account and Social Security numbers. I was suspicious because I don’t have an account in that bank and the notice, although with the “official” letterhead, used incorrect grammar and spelling. The bank confirmed it was aware of the scam. Never put these things in your e-mail (or on the Internet) anyway.

“ A friend in New Jersey phoned that he heard an enticing story about The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes bicycle route on National Public Radio. The fantastic bike routes in North Idaho obviously will benefit the area.

“ Visitors who have seen touring and on-Broadway shows have marveled at the quality of Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre. Our performers shine with the best of them, and the special effects, sets and costumes are super. Take in “Cats” as the season ends.
