The Spokesman-Review

Yankees 4, Rangers 2: Derek Jeter hit a solo homer and Tanyon Sturtze pitched five strong innings in a spot start, leading New York over host Texas. Sturtze (4-2), moved into the rotation because Javier Vazquez has pink eye, started poorly but recovered enough to give the Yankees a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Tigers 11, Athletics 3: Dmitri Young hit a three-run homer and Wilfredo Ledezma (2-0) made the early lead stand up, giving Detroit a win over host Oakland. Omar Infante drove in three runs and Rondell White homered as the Tigers ended a three-game losing streak. Ivan Rodriguez was the only Detroit starter who did not get a hit.

Indians 3, Blue Jays 2: C.C. Sabathia (9-6) pitched seven strong innings and rookie Grady Sizemore drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, leading host Cleveland over Toronto. Matt Lawton homered for the Indians, who have won three in a row and improved to 15-3 at home in one-run games.

Red Sox 14, Devil Rays 4: Kevin Millar had four hits and four RBIs in the first five innings, and host Boston beat Tampa Bay. Boston scored five runs in both the second and third innings for a 13-1 lead and cruised to its fourth win in five games. Tampa Bay lost for the 11th time in 12 road games.

Royals 4, White Sox 2: Darrell May (9-12) didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning and Mike Sweeney hit a two-run homer to lead Kansas City over host Chicago, ending its five-game losing streak. Chicago committed three errors in losing for the 13th time in 17 games.

Angels 4, Orioles 2: Vladimir Guerrero’s homer in the sixth tied it and Garret Anderson’s two-run single in the seventh gave the Angels the lead, helping host Anaheim beat Baltimore and snap the Orioles’ season-high eight-game winning streak.
