Man is critically injured in house fire on North Side

A man was badly burned Tuesday night in a fire that burned a northwest Spokane home.

The man, whose name and age were not released, was rescued by firefighters from a home at 5227 N. Wall St.

Neighbors called 911 about 10:20 p.m. after hearing what they thought was an explosion at the house that broke out some windows, said Spokane Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Sabo.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the house, Sabo said. The man was found on a couch inside.

Emergency crews performed CPR on the man, and he was transported to a local hospital by ambulance with critical injuries, Sabo said.

His condition was not known at press time.

The fire appeared to be confined to the front room of the home.

The cause is under investigation.
