Rios Champ In Long Battle
Marcelo Rios outlasted Greg Rusedski in a match of dramatically different styles to win the Newsweek Champion Cup tennis tournament at Indian Wells, Calif.
Rios, who breezed through the week without losing a set until the final, took a four-set victory that included two tiebreakers, one that stretched out to 32 points.
In a 2-hour, 46-minute match between left-handers, there were only two service breaks. Rios broke through in the ninth game of the fourth set and went on to take a 6-3, 6-7 (15-17), 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 decision.
Second-seeded Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden came back after losing the first set and defeated David Prinosil of Germany 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in the title match of the Copenhagen Open.
