Students Face Kidnap Allegations
Three University of Idaho freshmen face felony kidnapping charges after allegedly forcing a fellow dorm resident to a nearby field and beating him up.
Police still are searching for two of the suspects, David McKenna and Joshua Schorzman, both 18.
The other man, 18-year-old Lewis Soltez, was arrested and booked into the Latah County Jail on second-degree kidnapping charges with bail set at $5,000.
According to Capt. Cameron Hershaw, police received a report from a 19-year-old UI student on Friday that he had been forcibly taken from his dorm room down to a nearby field by six men.
His assailants kicked and punched him and accused him of revealing information to police in a recent drug investigation.
According to Hershaw, police officers made contact with one of the assailants earlier on a routine police check through the dorms.
“He had not given information. One of the men or more were contacted on a routine “knock and talk” and they for some reason thought he had given the information,” Hershaw said.
UI Dean of Students Bruce Pitman said university officials have asked the Moscow Police Department to lead the investigation. “This, on the face of it, does not seem to be a random act but part of an ongoing dispute among a couple of individuals,” Pitman said. “It seems to be a situation that is isolated.”
The men were all acquaintances. More charges may be pending.
