Soundtrack For ‘Titanic’ Stays On Top

The Hollywood Reporter

Even the first true studio album in three years from pop superstar Madonna could not sink the “Titanic” soundtrack.

For the week ending March 8, the unstoppable “Titanic” is the No. 1 record in America for the ninth consecutive week on sales of 478,000 copies. Despite dropping from 505,000 copies the previous week, the score soundtrack has now sold more than 16 million copies worldwide in 16 weeks of release, according to SoundScan figures obtained from the label.

Shining brightly, Madonna’s “Ray of Light” debuted at No. 2 with strong sales of 371,000 copies. The album was the singer’s first foray into electronic music.

Her previous release, the soundtrack to “Evita,” debuted in November 1996 with sales of 92,000 copies and has gone on to sell 1.9 million.

Dropping down to third place, Celine Dion’s “Let’s Talk About Love,” sold another 224,000 copies, down from the previous week’s 260,000, when it stood at No. 2.
