Hall Of Famer Doak Walker Critically Injured While Skiing

Associated Press

Doak Walker, a Heisman Trophy winner and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was critically injured on Friday in a skiing accident at Steamboat Ski Resort.

Walker, 71, fell while skiing on Lower Rainbow, a groomed intermediate trail on the upper mountain.

Witnesses said Walker was making giant-slalom type turns “when he hit a change in terrain, not like moguls or a bump, but rolling terrain, which caused him to travel 20-30 feet in the air. Then he tumbled approximately another 75 feet after he hit.”

There were no trees in the area and no collision.

Walker was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986.

A Southern Methodist All-America halfback, Walker won the Heisman Trophy in 1948. He played six seasons with the Detroit Lions.
