Woman Hoodwinks Generous Teenagers

From Staff Reports

A goodwill gesture by two teenagers who allowed a woman they thought was stranded to share their motel room cost them much more than a night’s lodging.

Police are searching for the woman, who the girls said stole from their purses and fled in their new car Tuesday morning before they woke up. All three had checked into a room at the Comfort Inn on Appleway Avenue late Monday.

Their 1998 Dodge Neon, credit card and check book also have not been found.

The girls, 18 and 15, told police they picked the woman up late Monday while driving through Post Falls. The woman told the girls she was from out of town, according to a police report. She said she was wanted by police for passing $25,000 in bad checks and could not return home, the report said.

One of the girls noticed the woman beginning to stir about 6 a.m., but went back to sleep. When the girls woke up five hours later, their car, belongings and the woman were gone.

Police say the woman introduced herself as “Christy.” She was described as approximately 22, 5-feet-8-inches tall and 200 pounds with blond hair.

She may be driving a purple, two-door Dodge Neon with Idaho license plate K152691. The car was valued at $14,700.
