Sfcc To Begin Language Center

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane Falls Community College will begin construction this summer of a $391,000 language center.

The 2,100-square-foot addition to the communications building will provide a concentrated area of self-paced study for the schools’ nearly 900 students of French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese and Russian languages.

Gregory Plummer, director of facilities for Community Colleges of Spokane, said construction will begin in July. The building could open as early as January 1999.

Plummer said money for the project has been set aside by the community college district from revenue from vending machine sales, the bookstore and other sources. The district’s foundation will raise money from private sources to equip the center with computers and other furnishings.
