Antawn Jamison continued his torrid pace, matching his career high with 36 points Wednesday night as No. 2 North Carolina held off depleted North Carolina State 74-60 at Raleigh.

The Tar Heels (19-1, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) remained on the heels of No. 1 Duke in the race for first place in the ACC and moved within one win of their 28th consecutive 20-win season.

The Wolfpack (10-7, 1-5) dressed only eight players - including four freshmen - because of injuries, and started only one player taller than 6-4.

At Louisville, Ky., Scott Padgett scored 24 points and Nazr Mohammed added 22 as the Wildcats (17-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) overcame an inspired effort by the Crimson Tide (9-10, 1-5).

At Iowa City, Iowa, reserve Morris Peterson scored a career-high 20 points against the Hawkeyes (15-3, 4-2) and helped the Spartans (12-4, 5-1) move into a first-place tie in the Big Ten with Purdue.

At West Lafayette, Ind., Jaraan Cornell tied a Mackey Arena record with seven 3-pointers and scored 23 points as the Boilermakers (16-4, 4-2 Big Ten) handed the Buckeyes (7-11, 0-5) their eighth straight loss.

At Oxford, Miss., the Rebels (13-2, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) beat the Tigers (9-7, 2-4) to tie a school record with their 15th straight home victory.

At Columbia, S.C., LeRon Williams scored 13 of his career-high 25 points in the first half, and the Gamecocks (12-3, 4-2 Southeastern Conference) held the Volunteers (11-4, 1-4) to their lowest scoring output of the season.

At South Bend, Ind., Keith Friel scored a career-high 30 points, including a school-record eight 3-pointers, as the Irish (10-6, 4-4 Big East) beat the Orangemen (15-3, 5-2).

Pat Bradley triggered two 10-0 second-half runs to help the Razorbacks (15-3, 4-1 Southeastern Conference to pull away from the Tigers (11-5, 3-2) in Auburn.
