Abstracts On Display At Ewu Photo Gallery

An exhibition of color landscape abstractions by Jean Van Harlingen of Kansas City, Mo., is on display at the Gallery of Photography on the Eastern Washington University campus in Cheney.

Van Harlingen finds subjects for her lens in her daily experiences.

“As one walks, runs or drives through space, one experiences complex abstractions of color and forms,” she has said. “I view abstraction as a reference to the unknown and the operation of the mind constantly trying to achieve synthesis.”

The difference between Van Harlingen’s art on canvas and that of her camera work is “photos exist in a pictorial space, rather than actual space. My two-dimensional pieces relate to abstraction inherent in nature’s complexity of details.”

Her artwork will be displayed through Jan. 30. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
