After paying $4 billion for the right to broadcast eight years of American Football Conference games, CBS shares rose $0.87 Tuesday to $28.38 (NYSE) and closed the week at $29.81. On the Nasdaq, Computer Language Research shares soared $8.44 to $39.37 Tuesday on word that the business software company would be acquired by Toronto-based Thomson publishing. Computer Language shares closed Friday at $22.25.

United Auto Group shares slipped $4.06 to $15.94 on Wednesday (Nasdaq) amid reports of poor quarterly earnings and a pending company reorganization. The New York-based auto dealer closed trading on Friday at $15.81. Data General shares dropped $2.81 to $14.06 Thursday (NYSE) amid reports of poor earnings and sluggish sales. Data General closed the week at $14.44.
