Pavillion Park Upgrade To Add Sports Facilities

Liberty Lake residents will soon see new additions to an old-time dream.

In March, construction bids will go out for $350,000 in improvements to Pavillion Park - a park having a pavillion that residents say will be patterned after the old Liberty Lake Dance Pavillion.

Plans call for construction this summer of a 60- by 120-foot tennis court, an in-line skate hockey court, a sand volleyball court and a covered entrance to the park with columns and lattice work.

A 1,300-square-foot spray pool will be added next to the existing playground this summer. The pool will be a shallow concrete area where children can touch buttons to set off sprays of water.

The bid signals the beginning of construction and a promise kept to Liberty Lake residents.

“At this point, we’re going to complete everything we told the public we were going to do,” said Lud Kramer, president of Friends of Pavillion Park, the non-profit group which has helped organize funding and design of the park.

The community raised $500,000 to pay for improvements to the park at Molter and Country Vista roads in Liberty Lake. Matching local and state grants raised the amount invested in improvements to $1 million.

Residents raised the money by publishing and marketing a cookbook, holding bake sales and auctions, and various other activities.

“It’s what a community does,” Kramer said. “Everyone here wants to be involved.”

Future plans include building a 1,200-square-foot amphitheater where a temporary stage now sits in the southwest corner of the 15-acre park.

Residents would also like to build a pavilion similar to the turn-of-the-century Liberty Lake Dance Pavillion.
