‘Yield’ Second In Sales To ‘Titanic’

The Hollywood Reporter

Even Pearl Jam, the all-time single-week sales record holder, can’t sink “Titanic.”

For the week ended Feb. 8, the blockbuster soundtrack outsold the debut of Pearl Jam’s fifth album, “Yield,” by almost 230,000 copies.

“Titanic” finished No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week, selling 588,000 copies in its 12th week.

“Yield” finished second with 359,000 copies sold in its first week. While first-week sales were smaller than previous Pearl Jam releases, the group proved its vitality. Pearl Jam first four albums were huge successes, selling 19 million copies in the United States and 30 million worldwide. The group’s 1996 album, “No Code,” debuted with 367,000 copies and has sold 1.3 million; “Vitalogy” (1994) sold 877,000 copies in its first week - the second-best debut ever - and 4.4 million overall; 1993’s “Vs.” had the all-time best first-week sales (950,000) and has sold 5.6 million; and the group’s debut, “Ten,” has sold 8 million copies.
