Nic Women Shut Out In Poll

Logic apparently fell out of the rankings as the latest NJCAA women’s basketball poll was released Tuesday.

North Idaho College (17-3 overall, 8-3 Scenic West Athletic Conference), which received votes a week ago, defeated upper-echelon SWAC foes Utah Valley and Salt Lake, and curiously didn’t receive a vote.

Meanwhile, College of Southern Idaho (17-4, 8-2) won its only game and fell from 15th out of the top 25. The Golden Eagles received votes.

Ricks (20-2, 9-2), winners over Utah Valley and Salt Lake, just like NIC, zoomed up 11 notches to No. 11.

In the men’s rankings, Dixie (21-2, 9-2) moved up one spot to fourth. Southern Idaho (20-2, 8-2) jumped from No. 10 to No. 8. Salt Lake (19-4, 9-2), which won at NIC and Ricks, received votes.

NIC center Steven Ryan is expected to miss a minimum of four games. He’ll have surgery next week to repair the broken nose he suffered last Saturday. He hopes to return for the Southern Idaho game on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Ryan won’t accompany the Cardinals on a road trip to Dixie Friday and Snow Saturday.

Cards third

NIC’s wrestling team retained its No. 3 ranking.

The Cardinals last regular-season dual match is Friday when Simon Fraser visits. NIC will host the Region 18 Tournament on Feb. 13.

Boosters meet

The Spokane Vandals Booster Club will meet at noon at Finnerty’s Red Lion. The event will be a basketball highlight luncheon.
