Challenge Grant To Boost Food Bank Coffers

Compiled From Wire Services

Cash donations made to the Spokane Food Bank until Feb. 14 will stretch farther than normal because of a challenge grant pledged by a Rhode Island foundation.

The Alan Feinstein Foundation, created to fight world hunger, will match donations of $25 or more to food banks nationwide, up to $1 million.

If donations nationwide exceed $1 million as expected, foundation contributions will be less than dollar-for-dollar.

Cash donations to the Spokane Food Bank usually pay the cost of trucking in donated food, said spokeswoman Ann Price. A $1 donation allows the food bank to bring in about $10 worth of food, she said.

Call the food bank at 534-6678 for more information.
