The San Francisco Giants clinched a tie for their first N.L. West title since 1989 with a 17-4 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on Friday night.

Barry Bonds hit his 40th homer to give him 101 RBIs. He joined Jeff Kent (121) and J.T. Snow (102) as the first Giants trio with 100 in one season since 1947.

Dodgers 10, Rockies 4 Denver

Mike Piazza’s 496-footer was the longest homer in Coors Field history and helped Los Angeles stay alive.

Colorado’s Larry Walker hit a 459-foot solo homer, his N.L.-leading 49th.

Phillies 5, Marlins 3 Philadelphia

The Phillies’ Curt Schilling broke J.R. Richard’s 1979 N.L. record for strikeouts by a right-hander in a season, setting the new mark of 319 before being ejected in the eighth inning.

Mark McGwire flied out to deep right but went homerless for the sixth time in seven games and remains tied with Ken Griffey Jr. for the M.L. lead with 55.
