Children’s Museum Awarded $75,000 Grant
The still-homeless Children’s Museum of Spokane has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, museum officials announced.
The grant comes a month after the museum board killed plans to turn a West First Avenue building into a permanent home.
The proposed lease would have evicted Mid-City Senior Center and placed the museum less than two blocks from a cluster of sex offenders.
Children’s Museum spokesman Steve Mumm said the board is about to select a new permanent site.
“We have a site downtown that looks very promising,” he said. The decision should be announced in a few weeks.
The museum made its four-month debut last year at a temporary site at 222 N. Post, drawing about 10,000 children and adults.
Plans are to open a permanent museum next year, drawing an anticipated 35,000 children and parents with hands-on exhibits.
