Kellogg Kos Cda In Volleyball
Kellogg High School can’t match Coeur d’Alene for enrollment, but after Thursday it can claim a different advantage.
Brianne Grebil’s seven blocked shots helped the Wildcats (1-5) topple visiting CdA 15-10, 15-13 in a non-league volleyball match. The Vikings are 0-4.
Amber Goodson added five kills and Casey Rainio 10 assists for Kellogg, which trailed the second game 12-9. Krissi Ruiz had seven kills, Heather Hull 18 assists and Katie Jo Shirley seven blocks for CdA.
In other non-leaguers, Sandpoint (2-1) traveled to Clarkston and posted a 15-7, 15-7, 15-11 win. Clarkston’s Shelby Eastlund had five blocks and four kills.
At Wallace, Jacey Vogrig and Candace Carpenter had six kills apiece to lead Priest River (3-1) over the Miners 15-8, 15-13, 15-9.
Jennifer Reed added 21 assists and Amy Leen four aces for the Spartans. Wallace is 3-2.
Amber Paulson’s 11 kills and four blocks guided Bonners Ferry (3-1, 2-1) to a 9-15, 15-9, 16-14 Intermountain League win over Lakeland (5-2, 0-1) at Rathdrum.
Sarah Walter added 11 assists and three aces for the Badgers, who trailed the third game 14-7. Cassie Beyer of the Hawks had 14 assists and six aces.
Angela Flint had 33 assists and Michelle Kelley 17 digs as visiting Lakeside (2-1, 2-0) topped Kootenai 15-3, 1-15, 15-8 in a North Star League match at Harrison.
Flint, Mary Kolar and Amy Fuchs had four kills apiece for the Knights. The Warriors are 1-2, 0-2.
Girls soccer
Elizabeth Hail scored twice as visiting CdA (4-0) topped East Valley 3-0 in a non-league match.
The Vikings’ Lauren Vogt set up Hail’s first goal, then fed Teah Beckman early in the second half for a 2-0 lead.
Gabby McClintock’s two goals and one assist helped West Valley (2-0) to a 6-2 non-league win over visiting Lakeland (0-4).
Heidi Lyman added two goals for the Eagles. Lakeland’s Cara Barnes scored twice.
Washington preps
The first Great Northern athletic contests occurred Thursday, and Colville’s girls found the new league to their liking.
Colville’s volleyball and soccer teams both defeated Deer Park during the league’s maiden voyage.
The eight-team Great Northern, which plays in the state’s new 2A classification, includes five former Northeast A League teams and three ex-Frontier League (AA) teams. Colville comes from the Frontier, DP from the NEA.
Volleyball
Melissa Wollan served the final five points of the match and finished with nine kills, four aces and six digs in Colville’s 15-9, 15-6, 15-10 win over DP.
Raejean Hedrick also had nine kills, and Lindsey Braff added six digs for the Indians. Amanda Oswalt of the Stags totaled 14 digs.
Chewelah defeated visiting Riverside 15-13, 15-1, 15-8. No details were reported.
Girls soccer
Jamie Rizzuto and Tracy Koesel had one goal and two assists apiece as Riverside topped visiting Medical Lake 5-0.
Larissa Miller added a pair of first-half goals for Riverside, which in recent years competed with Deer Park players.
DP’s first foray into the new league had a different outcome, as Kerri Brown’s goal and assist lifted visiting Colville to a 2-1 win.
