Heston Targets Media’s Gun Stance

New York Times

Charlton Heston, perhaps the best-known evangelist for the National Rifle Association, delivered a blistering defense of gun ownership Thursday and in the process excoriated news organizations for what he called their gullibility in swallowing anti-gun rhetoric.

The 72-year-old actor, who played Moses in “The Ten Commandments,” decreed that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was the “most vital” of all the amendments.

“It is America’s first freedom, the one that protects all the others,” Heston said. “Among freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, of assembly, of redress of grievances, it is the first among equals. It alone offers the absolute capacity to live without fear. The right to keep and bear arms is the one right that allows rights to exist at all.”
