A triumphant day for Oklahoma athletic director Steve Owens turned tragic when his wife found their son dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police discovered the body of Steven Blake Owens, 25, after responding to a call about 7:55 p.m. Saturday of a gunshot victim in northwest Norman.

Oklahoma defeated Syracuse earlier in the day.

Tom Goss, 51, is expected to be announced as the ninth athletic director in Michigan history at a news conference today. He will be the school’s fourth A.D. in the last nine years. Goss, a former Wolverines football player, is a businessman with no experience in running a college athletic department.

Hall of Fame trainer H. Allen Jerkens completed a sweep of the weekend stakes at Belmont Park in New York, as Pat Day rode Royal Indy to a two-length upset victory in the $200,000 Gazelle Handicap.
