Ex-Student Kills 1, Injures 2 In Shooting

Compiled From Wire Services

A former student opened fire during a high school homecoming football game, killing an 18-year-old girl and wounding two others, police said.

Witnesses said they heard shots Friday night during the third quarter of a game at Lew Wallace High School’s stadium, then saw the shooter running, jumping fences along the way.

Two girls walking past an opening in the stands under the press box were hit. A 16-year-old girl was grazed in the face; her 18-year-old friend was shot in the head and pronounced dead two hours later at a hospital.

A third victim, a 19-year-old male, was treated for a gunshot wound to his right forearm.

Gustavo McQuay, 18, of Gary, a former student at the high school, surrendered hours after the shooting and was being held pending the filing of charges, police said.
