Post Falls On Top Of Iel

Post Falls sits atop the Inland Empire League by itself after a victory Tuesday.

Janelle Ruen’s 11 kills, eight digs and three blocks helped the Trojans (11-3, 4-0) to a 5-15, 17-15, 15-8 volleyball win over visiting Lake City (5-8, 1-2).

Post Falls will take on visiting Sandpoint (13-2, 3-0) on Thursday.

Sandra Juhlin added seven kills, Rachel Edmonds 21 assists and Cindy Holland three aces for the Trojans.

The Timberwolves cruised in the opener after jumping up 7-1. LC rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the middle game at 14, but a Ruen kill and Timberwolves error forced a final game. Ruen had two big kills in the deciding game, and Juhlin’s block ended the match.

Also in the IEL, Lewiston (3-8, 1-3) rallied for a 7-15, 15-13, 15-11 decision over visiting Coeur d’Alene (3-9, 0-4).

Krissi Ruiz had five aces and four kills, and Sarah Kozlowski four aces for CdA.

Alicia Adams totaled 12 service points, including two aces, and Ariene Wilcott added seven kills as visiting St. Maries (14-1, 6-0) defeated Moscow 15-3, 15-5 in the Intermountain League. The Bears are 5-7, 3-3.

Sarah Stolley had 10 kills, including one to end the match, as Bonners Ferry (8-9, 3-3) defeated visiting Priest River 15-10, 7-15, 15-13.

Dana Robertson added 14 assists and Amber Paulson five kills for the Badgers. Candice Carpenter totaled seven kills for the Spartans (7-5, 3-4), who tied the final game at 13 after trailing 13-9.

Mindy Middleton’s 15 service points, six digs and four kills guided Lakeside (10-6, 4-1) to a 15-7, 15-7 North Star League win over visiting Clark Fork (6-6, 2-4) at Plummer.

Mary Kolar added eight kills and Michelle Kelley five kills for the Knights.

Girls soccer

Forward Brenda Robinson scored off surprised goalkeeper Jeanne Russell at 67 minutes to lift Moscow (8-3-0, 6-3-0) to a 1-0 North Idaho League win over visiting Lake City (5-4-2, 4-4-1).

Russell and several players on the field had paused moments before, as the ball appeared to go out of bounds.

Janee Andre scored twice, the second on a rebound off her shot, and Coeur d’Alene (9-4) defeated visiting Cheney 3-0 in a non-league match.

Kara Kovatch also scored on a rebound, from 18 yards out. Cheney is 2-2-1.

Washington girls soccer

Larissa Mueller scored three times, giving her seven goals in the past two matches, as Riverside (5-0-0) defeated visiting Pullman 4-0 to break a tie for first place in the GNL.

Mueller, with 11 goals, jumped ahead of teammate Tracy Koesel (10) for the GNL lead. Brooke Dornquast scored her seventh for the Rams, who have outscored league rivals 47-0. The Greyhounds (4-1-0) hadn’t allowed a goal in GNL matches.

At Medical Lake, Javana Howard’s scored twice during a three-goal spree the Cardinals (2-1-2) used to defeat visiting Lakeside 4-3.
