Princess Fatemeh-Khanoum de Gruyter, the mother of Veronica Hearst and author of a book on women in the Soviet Union, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure. She was 97.

Baron Edmond de Rothschild, the French-born financier who was said to be the wealthiest of the surviving descendants of the legendary banking family, died in Geneva on Sunday. He was 71.

H. Richard Hornberger, a surgeon whose novel inspired the film and television series “M*A*S*H,” died Tuesday at age 73.

Decision

The House overwhelmingly approved a measure Wednesday designed to overhaul the operations of the Internal Revenue Service and give taxpayers substantial new rights in dealing with the agency.
