Panel Will Discuss Coeur D’Alene River Basin Cleanup

FROM FOR THE RECORD (Tuesday, November 4, 1997): Correction Date incorrect: A panel discussion on water quality issues of the Coeur d’Alene-Spokane River Watershed will be conducted Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Spokane Coommunity College Lair-Student Center Auditorium. The date of the discussion was reported incorrectly in an article in Monday’s newspaper.

Experts on mining and water quality issues in the Coeur d’Alene River basin will appear on a panel for an event sponsored by Spokane Community College next week.

KPBX public radio news director Doug Nadvornick will moderate a discussion on “Water Quality Issues of the Coeur d’Alene-Spokane Watershed: History, Clean-up and Future” at 7 p.m. Sunday in the SCC Lair-Student Center Auditorium, in Building 6, 1810 N. Greene St.

The panel includes Earl Bennett from the College of Mines at University of Idaho, Marti Calabretta of the Silver Valley Trust Fund, Earl Liverman of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Geoff Harvey of the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and Bob Lambeth of Titan Environmental, a consulting firm. A member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe also may appear on the panel.

The panel will look at the historical aspects to water quality issues in the basin, current cleanup efforts and the future of water quality throughout the watershed.
