Flyers Cheer Up Philadelphians

Philadelphia Inquirer

Chanting, screaming hockey fans filled taverns, restaurants and the CoreStates Center from 2 to 5 Sunday afternoon to root the Philadelphia Flyers past the New York Rangers. The frustration of enduring lackluster teams in other sports erupted after the 4-2 Flyers win.

“This could get a little scary,” said Jerry Burns, a pub owner.

“People love a winner,” he said. “It makes the whole area happy.”

“I love them! I love them! I love them!” said Pam Flemming, 38, of Collingswood, as she watched the final minutes of the game with friends at another tavern in the Philadelphia area.
