Ucla Gets Huskies, Fresno Also Advances In Ncaa Softball Series
UCLA defeated Michigan 7-3 and Fresno State edged Iowa 7-6 Saturday night as both winners reached the Final Four of the NCAA Softball World Series.
Robyn Yorke’s RBI single capped a three-run seventh inning and gave Fresno State its victory over Iowa.
Iowa took a 6-4 lead in the fifth on back-to-back homers by Tammy Utley and Brandi Macias. Utley tied a World Series record with four RBIs in the game.
Kim Peck (11-1), who worked 2-1/3 innings in relief was the winner. Debbie Dilbao (30-5) allowed nine hits and six runs in taking the loss for the Hawkeyes.
Fresno State (54-19) will play Arizona (59-4) today, and UCLA (47-13) meets Washington (50-17). Arizona and Washington are undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, while Fresno State and UCLA each have one loss.
The championship game will be held Monday morning.
Washington has defeated Iowa and South Carolina to advance to today’s semifinal.
