Community Foundation Aids Schools And Programs

Eighteen North Idaho schools and educational programs are among those benefiting from $735,000 in grants announced this week by the Idaho Community Foundation.

The 99 grants were made through a partnership with the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation. Recipients include:

Holy Family Catholic School, Coeur d’Alene, $15,070 to purchase math, science and social studies materials;

Hayden Meadows Elementary, Coeur d’Alene, $14,450 to support and expand the literacy acquisition program;

Seltice Elementary, Post Falls, $12,300 to buy materials for a reading-at-home project;

Wallace School District, $8,000 for the School to Work Initiative;

Spirit Lake Elementary, $7,890 to purchase a reading program for kindergarten through second grade;

Sorensen Elementary, Coeur d’Alene, $5,146 to support three reading and literacy programs and $430 to buy a curriculum on victim/ bully behavior.

Junior Achievement of the Inland Northwest, $5,000 to support the Work Force Readiness program in Coeur d’Alene schools;

Post Falls High School, $5,000 to buy research materials for three classes integrating history, English and government;

Community Assistance League of Sandpoint, $4,900 for materials for art enrichment program at 11 elementary schools;

Canyon Elementary, Cataldo, $4,873 to buy state-approved playground equipment;

Fernan Elementary, Coeur d’Alene, $4,695 to purchase materials for a program for at-risk kindergartners, and $3,600 to buy connectors for classroom televisions;

Mullan School District, $4,000 for a program to improve parenting skills;

Post Falls New Vision High School, $3,925 for supplies and equipment for a greenhouse;

Hayden Meadows Elementary, Coeur d’Alene, $3,863 to buy sound and lighting equipment for the gym;

Inland Northwest Lutheran Outdoor Ministries, Coeur d’Alene, $1,800 for environmental education;

St. Maries Middle School, $1,000 to support Space Week activities.
