Blown Fuse Causes Mead Power Outage
Mead High School students got a sunny day off after a blackout at their campus early Thursday.
The lights flickered and then went dark when a fuse on a utility pole failed just before classes were to begin, authorities said.
Students gathered in a courtyard for about an hour, waiting for power to be restored, said principal Mick Miller.
They were sent home about 9 a.m. after several motors blew in the heating and air-conditioning system, and the building began smelling like smoke, Miller said.
“The thought of 1,800 kids in here with no air is not a pleasant thought,” Miller said.
Classes were expected to resume today.
