FOR THE RECORD (May 20, 1997): Wrong number: The phone number for the Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle is (206) 684-7300. The number in the Arts Notes column in Sunday’s IN Life was incorrect.

Blame it on Will - William Shakespeare, that is.

The Performing Arts Day Camp, sponsored by Spokane Civic Theatre, will culminate its two-week program with a full-length extravaganza of drama, comedy, singing, dancing and hand-to-hand combat.

“It Started with Shakespeare” will showcase what students in grades seven through 12 learn in the theater camp from July 7 to 20.

Other Civic Theatre classes this summer include two-week sessions for children in grades one through 12; and two two-week sessions for children in grades one through six.

Session one is scheduled for June 23 to July 3; the second is July 21 to 31. Tuition is $50 per session, and space is limited.

The special performing arts daycamp is for students in grades seven through 12. There will be classes and workshops on acting, auditioning, voice, vocal characterization, dance and movement, stage combat and interpreting Shakespeare.

Daycamp registration before June 1 is $185 and $200 after that.

For registration and more information, call the theater’s office, 325-1413.

CdA drama workshops

The Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene, in cooperation with Sleepy Hollow Children’s Theatre, is enrolling students for two summer sessions of workshops for young people, 7 to 15.

Each 10-day workshop will focus on theater production, using the musical “Oz: Forever,” loosely based on “The Wizard of Oz.”

The workshops will teach auditioning, character development, creative dramatics, set construction, mime, improvisation and vocal techniques.

Four performances of “Oz: Forever” will culminate the sessions.

Workshops, with a maximum enrollment of 50, are scheduled for June 16-28, and June 30-July 12. Cost is $150. For registration information, call the Lake City Playhouse at (208) 667-1323.

A world-class artist

Last year, out of 3,000 paintings, Nelson’s “Brothers in the Wind” was one of eight to compete for three American placements in the world competition in England. He took fourth (of 80 pieces) in that international show.
