Huskies Win Pac-10 Baseball Championship

Jamie Porter’s two-run double highlighted a three-run seventh inning as the Washington Huskies came from behind to top the Stanford Cardinal and win the Pac-10 baseball championship Saturday at Stanford, Calif.

The Huskies (43-18) won the best-of-3 series in three games. Both teams already have received bids to the 48-team NCAA Tournament. Pairings will be announced Monday.

Ryan Soules, who was 4 for 5, hit a solo homer in the eighth to cap Washington’s scoring.

Tony Schrager’s homer in the second was Stanford’s 93rd home run of the year, tying the school record for the single-season mark set in 1990.

Reliever Blair Fowler picked up the victory and Bryan Williamson worked the final three innings to earn his fifth save. Tony Cogan took the loss for Stanford (38-19).

Track and Field

Stanford’s Tracye Lawyer and California’s Ross Bomben each won three events Saturday to take the first-day lead at the Pac-10 Multi-Event Championships at Husky Stadium in Seattle.

Katrinka Jackson, of Stanford, was second overall with 3,226 points. Washington State’s Heidi Shultz (2,802) was fifth.

Bomben held a slim 50-point lead over Arizona’s Dominic Johnson after five events in the decathlon.
