Border Patrol Agent Is Shot From Mexico

Compiled From Wire Services

A U.S. Border Patrol agent suffered a grazing head wound from shots fired from across the Mexico border early Saturday, prompting authorities in both countries to increase patrols.

The unidentified agent was alone in a marked Border Patrol vehicle at about 3 a.m. Saturday near the San Ysidro border crossing when someone in a car on Mexico’s Ensenada Highway fired six to 10 shots, Wayne Preston, a Border Patrol supervising agent said. The shooting was unprovoked, he said.

Two bullets pierced the windshield and hit the agent in the head and shoulder. The agent drove about 150 yards north of the border fence, where he stopped and called for help.

The three-year veteran, in his 20s and married, was in stable but guarded condition late Saturday.
