Olympiques Advance To Memorial Cup Final
It took him four tries, but Martin Menard finally earned the Hull Olympiques a bye to the Memorial Cup junior hockey championship final.
Menard’s fourth goal of the game Thursday night finally submerged the pesky Chicoutimi Sagueneens as Hull won an 8-5 shootout at the Robert Guertin Arena.
“Everybody on the team was a little nervous and you could see that on the ice,” said Menard. “We didn’t want to give up that many goals but we got out with the win.”
Hull, Oshawa and Lethbridge all completed the round robin with 2-1 records. But the Olympiques earn the bye to Sunday’s final on the strength of their superior goal differential. Chicoutimi finished 0-3.
Lethbridge and Oshawa meet in today’s semifinal.
