Gates Gives Ymca $250,000 For New Pool
Bill Gates has given the Inland Northwest YMCA $250,000 to help build a new pool in the Spokane Valley.
The donation came from Gates’ charitable foundation. The money is part of the $2.4 million raised so far to build the new pool and gym.
The Y’s goal for the project is $5.4 million. Some of the money will be used to upgrade equipment at the downtown facility and replace old cabins at the Y’s Camp Reed.
Gates, chairman of Microsoft Corp., is the richest man is America. His estimated value is $15 billion.
“This gift will substantially impact the quality and quantity of youth and family services in Spokane,” Gates said in a press release.
Most of the money raised thus far has come from corporations and charitable foundations. The land at Mirabeau Point, valued at $950,000, was donated by the Inland Empire Paper Co.
Other big donations include $600,000 from the Comstock Foundation and $100,000 from the Johnston-Fix Foundation. , DataTimes
