Medical Lake Eliminates Freeman

Josh Early homered and had three RBIs as fourth-seeded Medical Lake (9-6) rallied from a 5-0 deficit to eliminate visiting Freeman 20-12 at a District 7-A baseball tournament opener Tuesday.

Kenny Beeler and Josh Sheffield had back-to-back homers to lift fifth-seeded Freeman (6-9) to its early lead.

ML hosts Kettle Falls at 4 p.m. today in a loser-out. The winner plays No. 2 Chewelah (10-4) in a loser-out Saturday at Lakeside.

Brian Hunnicutt went 2 for 2, and he and Nathan Weathers had two RBIs apiece to lead No. 6 Kettle Falls (7-8) to a 7-6 win at No. 3 Colfax (8-7). KF starter Carey Lembcke struck out six. For Colfax, Mark McSweeney had a bases-clearing double in the fifth.

Softball

District 7-A tournament

Jessica Blevins hit a one-out, game-tying double in the bottom of the eighth, then scored on an infield error as No. 4 Colfax (6-9) eliminated No. 5 Chewelah 7-6 in a tourney opener at Colfax.

Stella Savtiz scored in the top of the eighth to put Chewelah (5-10) ahead, but Colfax rallied. Laurie Biagi, 3 for 5, scored the tying run.

Colfax moves on to play league champion Kettle Falls (13-1) at 10 a.m. Saturday at Medical Lake.

No. 3 Lakeside also moved on, as Nikki Petticrew threw a three-hitter and Brook Hamilton hit a three-run homer in the sixth as the Eagles (10-5) eliminated visiting Newport 6-0. Lakeside plays No. 2 Freeman (12-2) at 10 Saturday.

Bi-County League tournament

Tara Evans had four RBIs, including a bases-clearing double during a five-run fourth, as Reardan upset Davenport 13-7 in the title game at Odessa.

The Indians (13-8) will open the District 7-B tournament May 21 at Kettle Falls against Panorama No. 4.

Reardan qualified for the title game by beating Ritzville 14-1 behind Annie Edmonds’ five RBIs.

Davenport beat Almira/Coulee-Hartline 19-2 to make the title game. Suzanne Schreck homered and had five RBIs, and Christy Cowdrey added four RBIs for the Gorillas.

ACH rebounded to beat Odessa for the No. 3 seed to district.

Odessa meets Panorama No. 5 for seeding into district. Odessa beat Ritzville 7-3 to qualify.

Track and field

Bi-County championships

Travis Titchenal won both hurdles and ran a leg on the 400-meter relay team to lead Reardan’s boys to the team title at Creston. Joel Waters of WilburCreston won the 100, 200 and long jump.

Ritzville won the girls team title. Valley Christian’s Carmen Evans won the 100 and 100 hurdles.
